How do I become a volunteer? |
If you are interested in volunteering at the Library, please call; Volunteer Services at (510) 791-3465 or view additional information on volunteer opportunities at the Library and the Hospital. |
| What do volunteers do at the Library? | Volunteers primarily assist patrons in their research
needs. Whether it is helping a patron find the book they are looking for or
assisting with a computer search, volunteers help make the Library patron's visit a
successful one. Volunteers also assist in new program development and other special projects. |
| What would be my minimum hourly commitment? | Library volunteers are asked to volunteer a minimum of two shifts per month. Each shift is either two or three hours long depending on the time of day you choose to volunteer. |
What requirements do you have of volunteers? |
Library volunteers must be at least 15.5 years old and
have a sophomore standing. Volunteers need to have an outgoing, caring personality and the ability to interact with a variety of individuals. No prior library or research skills are required. |
What training is provided? |
Because we are a hospital facility accredited by the JCAHO,
all volunteers must first complete a mandatory safety orientation before
they can begin to staff a volunteer assignment. After you complete your safety orientation, you will be given one-on-one training at the Library. This includes research techniques, computer training and a variety of other skills. |
